Lifestyle Resources

The key to a healthy weight is maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Let us guide you by offering some of our favorite resources, available to anyone with access to the internet.

Understanding your calorie budget

Simply put, calories are a measure of energy. Just as we measure miles per gallon for fuel energy or kilowatt hours for electrical energy, a calorie is how we measure the amount of energy needed to supply the basic functions in our body.

Everything we do from thinking, moving, blinking, chewing, jumping, eating, running, or just lying still we are constantly burning energy. That energy arrives in our body solely through what we put in our mouth by eating or drinking.

The amount of energy needed to keep our body functioning fluctuates drastically based on our sex, age and activity level.

If you get more calories than your body needs to function, they will be stored as body fat. If you intake less calories than your body requires, your body fat will be used as energy to maintain your essential bodily functions.

Basal Metabolic Rate calculator

Your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is an estimate of how many calories you need to consume to keep your current body weight. Please speak with a medical provider before you adjust your daily calorie intake.
