Why do I need to install the MyCap app?

We ask that you install the MyCap app on your smartphone throughout the research study, because it will help us to easily communicate with you, as we can send secure messages to you and you can also send secure messages to us.

Also, if at some point your smartphone has problems receiving our survey links via text messaging, then we may need to switch to sending the surveys to you via the MyCap app.

How to install the MyCap app

Step 1: We will send you an email asking you to install MyCap.

 

Step 2: While on your smartphone, go to the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and search for “MyCap”. The app icon looks like this:

Step 3: Install the app

 

Step 4: Once you have installed the app, now open it.

 

Step 5: After opening the app, you may see a screen pop up that says something like “MyCap would like to send you notifications.” If this pops up, please tap "Allow."

Step 6: You will now see the MyCap app home page. Please tap on “Primary Profile.”

Step 7: Then tap “Join Project.”

Step 8: You should now see this screen:

Step 9: Now, go on your computer, tablet, or device other than your smartphone and open the email we sent to you about the MyCap app.

This email has a QR code in it that you will need to scan with your phone.

Step 10: Leave the QR code up on the other device and now go back to your smartphone and tap on “Scan QR code.”

MyCap may ask for permission to access your camera. Please click on “ok” or “allow.”

Step 11: Now, hold your phone up to the QR code (that is in the email that you have open on your other device) and scan the QR code.

 

Step 12: You should now see a Project EMBRACE screen. Tap “Next.”

Step 13: Then, you will see a permissions screen. Tap “Next.”

Step 14: You will see a Notifications screen. Please tap “Allow” and then “Next.”

This will allow you to see when we have sent you messages.

Step 15: You will then see a “Welcome” screen. Tap “Done.”

Step 16: The “EMBRACE” study should now be listed on your projects screen on the MyCap app and/or you may already see the “Activities” screen in the EMBRACE study.

 

Step 17: Now, go into Project EMBRACE on the MyCap app and send us a secure message telling us you installed the app.

To do this, tap on the Messages icon.

Then you can type a message to us. Even just typing and sending “Hello!” would be fine.

Step 18: You should receive a message back from us within 24 hours (if it is a weekday).

Step 19: Watch for future messages from us too!

When you receive a message from us, a notification will likely pop up on your phone that says something like “You have a secure message waiting”.
