You have been referred to the Cardiometabolic Clinic at Parkview Heart Institute because your physician has determined that you have cardiometabolic syndrome.
Cardiometabolic syndrome affects individuals with both diabetes and vascular disease. Having both conditions puts you at higher risk for such health concerns as heart attack, stroke, heart failure and peripheral vascular disease. Elevated blood sugar causes irritation and inflammation in the body’s arteries, which can lead to damage in the arteries. Artery damage is worsened when individuals have other associated health conditions, such as high cholesterol and high blood pressure, or negative lifestyle habits, such as being overweight, sedentary or using tobacco.
