Foot care

As the COVID-19 situation unfolds and we settle into the idea of staying at home for the sake of social distancing, it’s important to find ways to incorporate movement and foot care into your daily routine. Here are some things you can do to maintain your health and hygiene, and even give back, during this interesting time.

Keep moving!

We’ve officially entered spring and, as a result, the weather will only continue to improve. Get out there and go for a walk. If you’re new to taking a stroll around the neighborhood, it’s best to gradually increase your distance. Get a good pair of walking shoes for sturdiness, support and protection.

After walking a long distance, your feet might be a little achy. While this is normal, if it continues, consider getting a new pair of shoes or possibly arch supports. You may need to set up an appointment with your podiatrist to discuss custom orthotics or other solutions.

Spruce up the yard

While you’re out there preparing your lawn and flower beds, make sure your feet are protected. Avoid wearing sandals, flip flops or shoes with holes while doing your outdoor chores. Make sure your toes are well protected while working on your home.

Audit your footwear collection

If a spring shower forces you inside, consider cleaning out your closet. Donate the items you haven’t worn in a while or that don’t quite fit anymore. Socks are a great thing to donate, as are shoes. Depending on where you donate, some places will even take one shoe without its match.

Hang in there, everyone. I believe that together, we can “deFEET” this virus and find our way back to a healthy normal.
