Nutrition plays an important role in the fight against cancer. That’s why the Parkview Cancer Institute provides resources for good nutrition to people receiving treatment for cancer.
How can a clinical dietitian help me?
A clinical dietitian is here to talk with you about your nutrition needs – before, during and after treatment. Cancer treatments can take a toll on your body, and eating the right foods can help you feel better and improve your energy levels.
When you are fighting cancer, your body may not handle food the same way. That’s why it’s important to talk to your doctor, nurse or navigator to get a referral and schedule an appointment with a dietitian. If you receive outpatient treatment, appointments can be made to coincide with your treatment schedule.
Our dietitians can help you:
- Make healthy food choices, plan meals and find recipes
- Estimate calorie, protein, and fluid requirements related to your needs
- Get more resources such as cancer-related nutrition materials, credible cancer-related websites and community resources for support and assistance
- Maintain enough oral intake of calories, protein and hydration with traditional meals
- Understand tube-feeding recommendations when oral intake is no longer an option
- Reduce side effects from cancer or cancer treatments through nutrition
