By now, it’s been engrained in us that sleep is important. But do you know why? Sure, it gives you energy to get through the day, but it’s also a major factor when it comes to other key elements of your well-being. Here are three very important reasons you should catch more shuteye.

Do it for your blood pressure

When we sleep, our blood pressure goes down. If you are not sleeping well, your blood pressure stays higher for a longer period of time. Why is this concerning? High blood pressure is one of the leading risks for both heart disease and stroke.

Do it for your blood sugar

We know higher blood sugar, even in those without a diabetes diagnosis, is linked to heart disease. Some studies show that getting enough good sleep may help people improve blood sugar control.

Do it for your waistline

A lack of sleep may affect the part of the brain that controls hunger, which can lead to over-eating and weight gain. Being overweight is yet another risk factor for heart disease.
