FAQ

What does a transition to paperless statements mean?

For MyChart users who are the guarantor of an account,* statements will be set to paperless billing by default. This means billing statements will be sent via MyChart and no longer via mail. If you prefer paper statements, you can easily log in to MyChart and return the billing setting to paper statements.

*A guarantor is the person or entity responsible for paying the balance of an account.

If I received a letter in the mail about this change, how am I impacted?
If you received a letter regarding this billing statement change, you have been identified as a patient who has not explicitly opted in to or out of paperless billing. With this change, you will be opted in to paperless by default if you take no further action.
What happens if I do not take action?
If you take no action and have also not explicitly opted out in the past, you will be opted in to paperless billing as of this change. If you are already opted in to paperless billing, no changes will occur for you, and you will remain enrolled in paperless billing.
I have already opted out of paperless billing via MyChart or by calling customer service. Will I be impacted by this change?
No, if you have previously opted out of paperless billing via MyChart or phone, your statements will remain on paper. If you are unsure if you have opted in or out, please log in to your MyChart account to double-check your status.
How do I double-check my paperless-billing status?
  • Log in to your MyChart account, then select “Billing” under the menu.
    • If you are not currently enrolled in paperless billing, there will be a section at the top of the screen that says, “Save time while saving paper.” Click the “Get started” button.
  • To ensure that you have opted out, toggle your paperless setting to “On” and click “Save,” and then toggle it back to “Off” and click “Save” again.
  • If you scroll to the bottom of the billing screen and it says, “You are opted in to paperless billing for participating locations” or if you see any leaf icons next to your guarantor accounts, you are already opted in for paperless billing.
    • If you wish to change your status, select the “Paperless preferences” link at the bottom of the screen.
  • At any time, you may search “paperless” in MyChart to navigate to the paperless billing section.
How will I be notified of my paperless bill?

Email notifications are on by default, and you cannot opt out of these notifications. You will receive an email with a link to view the statement in MyChart each time you receive a new statement.

If you would like to also enable push messages or text messages, please review your “Communication Preferences” under the menu in MyChart.

What happens if I fail to act on my paperless statements and emails?
If you have failed to pay your balance by your third paperless statement, you will also receive a final-notice paper statement.
