Francine's Friends Mobile Mammography Unit

Donate to Francine's Friends

After Francine Schubert lost her battle with breast cancer, several of her friends met to find a way not only to honor Francine’s spirit and drive, but to provide life-saving services to women in Fort Wayne and surrounding areas. Their goal to establish a free mobile mammography unit to serve those who were unable to access this important screening was reached in the fall of 2005. Since then, Francine’s Friends has funded 14,053 mammograms, afforded 10,979 first-screen mammograms and provided diagnostic services to more than 40,085 women.

Francine’s Friends Mobile Mammography coach brings 3D screening mammograms to local communities, offering convenience and privacy for this important screening test, which takes only 15 minutes. Radiologic technologists from the Breast Diagnostic Center (BDC) staff the coach, which is furnished with the same FDA-approved and Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA)-approved 3D equipment as the stationary sites of the BDC. Board-certified breast-imaging radiologists from FWRadiology interpret the exams.
