WARSAW, IND. – Nov. 12, 2024 – Two new medical providers are ready to serve Kosciusko County residents’ health needs. Charles Hill, III, DO, Parkview Physicians Group (PPG) – Pediatrics, and Tawny Avila, DO, Parkview Physicians Group – Family Medicine, have begun welcoming patients at their offices in the medical office building on the Parkview Kosciusko Hospital campus, 1355 Mariners Drive, Warsaw.
“We are very pleased to expand access to local care with the arrival of these skilled physicians,” said Scott Gabriel, market president, Parkview Health Northwest. “Patients will find Dr. Hill and Dr. Avila caring, knowledgeable partners in their health care.”
Charles L. Hill, III, DO, PPG – Pediatrics
Dr. Hill completed his residency in pediatrics at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at Ascension St. Vincent in Indianapolis. As pediatric chief resident, he served as the staff physician in the outpatient clinic and the hospital’s Level 2 newborn nursery. He earned his medical degree (Doctor of Osteopathy) from Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Indianapolis.
Hill pursued his undergraduate studies at Purdue University, earning a bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science. Prior to medical school, he worked as a microbiology technician in the labs at Wishard and Eskenazi hospitals in Indianapolis, and at Purdue, he helped train and educate anatomy and physiology students in lab science applications.
Hill is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
During a medical school rotation in the newborn intensive care unit (NICU), Hill says he discovered a passion for taking care of sick children.
“I found it gratifying not only to help the children, but also to assist their families in navigating those difficult times,” he said. “As their pediatrician, I get to establish relationships with my young patients that grow as they do. It’s a privilege to be part of their life journeys and those of their families.”
Hill approaches care for each child holistically: “I don’t just look at the specific issue that prompted them to come see me,” he said. “And because a problem that affects a pediatric patient also affects the family, I make sure to address related issues for family members, too. It’s important to take time to listen to them. By addressing their specific questions and concerns, I can calm most anxieties that arise around having to bring one’s child to the pediatrician.”
Outside of work, Hill enjoys cooking, gardening, reading, camping, hiking and otherwise spending time with friends and family, including his cats, Zap and Annabel Lee.
Tawny Avila, DO, PPG – Family Medicine
Dr. Avila is an experienced family medicine physician with a broad medical background. Most recently, she served patients in the Decatur area, providing primary and urgent care, managing medical care in nursing homes, teaching medical students and residents about practicing medicine in rural areas, and guiding nurse practitioners in daily patient care.
She has also practiced in hospital, outpatient clinic and urgent care environments in Mishawaka, LaPorte, South Bend, Evansville and Indianapolis, as well as Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Avila completed her family medicine residency at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, and a rotation in osteopathic manipulative care with a Grand Rapids, Michigan, osteopath specializing in health concerns of pregnant women and newborns. She received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from A.T. Still University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri.
Avilla pursued her undergraduate studies at Truman State University in Kirksville, earning a bachelor’s degree in biology/pre-medicine. She began her career path as a phlebotomist at Kirksville Regional Medical Center in Missouri. Before her medical training, she also worked as a histotechnician, processing surgical specimens for pathology diagnosis, and as an instructor of chemistry, anatomy and physiology.
Avila is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. She holds memberships in the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Association, the American Association of Physician Leadership, and the Christian Medical and Dental Association.
Avila works to help patients understand their health situation and determine the best treatment plan to fit their lives and health goals. She seeks new research she can apply on her patients’ behalf.
“I am concerned with my patients’ overall needs, emotional and physical health,” said Avila, “and my goal is to help each person be at their best. Mental and physical states affect each other, so understanding each patient as a whole person is very important. As a provider, I love being able to help patients of all ages, from the cradle to the last years of life.”
Avila is trained to provide in-office injections for chronic pain relief in joints and muscle trigger points (knots).
Outside of work, she enjoys being active outdoors, gardening, hiking and walking with the family dogs, as well as cooking and baking – activities she loves to share with her husband and daughter.
