KENDALLVILLE, IND. – JULY 30, 2024 – Are you looking for ways to add more “zip” to meals and snacks while still eating healthfully? Tired of the same old flavor options? Expanding your knowledge of cooking with herbs could be the answer!
Parkview Center for Healthy Living, Purdue Extension and Noble County Master Gardeners are teaming up to offer area residents a fun, hands-on class, “Herbs: From Root to Plate,” on Thursday, Aug. 15, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Community Learning Center, 401 E. Diamond St., in Kendallville.
Herbs can spice up everyday meals with color, flavor and fragrance. This two-hour culinary adventure with registered dietitians and expert gardeners will explore the health benefits of herbs, how to cultivate them and how to use them in cooking. In addition, participants will sample herbal lemonade and prepare an easy pesto.
They’ll also get pro tips such as:
- Think basil is only used in Italian dishes? Think again: Basil can enliven curries and fried rice.
- Lavender isn’t just a scent in personal care products. Lavender buds can be added to a variety of hot and cold beverages for a soft, calming flavor and aroma.
Anyone may attend “Herbs: From Root to Plate” for a fee of $10 per person. Payment in advance is required. Scholarships are available upon request for those who qualify.
