Parkview Health respiratory therapist receives national award

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – April 22, 2025 – Parkview Health’s Lisa Long recently received the national PHIL Award, which recognizes respiratory therapists who provide excellent care.PHIL award

Long began her career in respiratory therapy in 2008 and has held multiple positions in the field since then. She joined the staff at Parkview Hospital Randallia in 2023 and is currently one of the charge therapists. Long also works in the Critical Care ICU unit, the role in which she was nominated for the PHIL Award.

The PHIL Award was created in 2006 in honor of Philip C. Lamka, who died of interstitial lung disease. This annual award is given to the “best of the best” therapists who are nominated by the patients they serve. Long joins more than 500 therapists nationwide who have been honored with the PHIL award since 2006.

“We’re proud to celebrate Lisa Long as our second PHIL Award winner here at Parkview,” said Rebekah Johnson, manager of cardiopulmonary services, Parkview Health. “Lisa is a great leader and role model for our therapists with extensive experience to draw on, while also sharing her great knowledge and compassion with patients and their families as she helps them recover from whatever is impacting their breathing.”

Long was nominated by Dr. Jody Haddock, a pulmonary and critical care physician in the intensive and critical care units at Randallia, who took note of the leading role she plays in the hospital intensive care unit.

“Lisa is a skilled respiratory therapist who has clearly earned the trust of the entire pulmonary/critical care physician team,” Haddock wrote. “During my first week working at Randallia, I was told by another pulmonary provider that Lisa would be a great resource person if I had any questions regarding respiratory therapy on this campus.

“She is dependable, humble, and enthusiastic about her work,” Haddock continued. “Without question, Lisa is one of the most respected and productive members of the Randallia respiratory care team. She is calm in a crisis and has consistently demonstrated strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. I always feel confident when Lisa is caring for my sickest patients.”

Parkview leaders surprised Long with an award presentation on March 7. PHIL winners receive an “Appreciation” sculpture, a framed certificate and PHIL award lapel pin from The Faces Foundation.
