Generosity Heals

As an avid cyclist, Roy Wilson finds pure joy in riding 4,000-6,000 miles a year. For more than 25 years, he’s experienced the same gratification by generously donating his time and gifts to Parkview Health.

“I worked for Parkview Health for 37 years and I’m a Parkview retiree. Parkview was an incredible place to work and possibly the best employer anyone could have. I worked in finance for 25 years and for the last 12, I worked in the corporate counsel and set up the compliance program for the entire health system,” Roy shared.

After years of tireless service to the health system, Roy retired from his role as Parkview’s Director of Compliance on April 30, 2009. While he was confident in his decision, he had strong feelings about leaving his ‘Parkview family’.

While Roy was ready to enjoy more time with his immediate family in southern Indiana, he was also able to keep in touch with his former co-workers by volunteering and attending events. In fact, he has volunteered his time working at almost every Parkview open house since 2009. From the opening of Parkview Regional Medical Center (PRMC) to the Mirro Center for Research and Innovation, and most recently, the Parkview Cancer Institute – he has been there to support them all.

Aside from giving his time to Parkview as a dedicated volunteer, Roy donates annually to the Parkview Foundation in memoriam of the many loved ones he has lost.

“I have been very blessed and I wanted to give back to my friends, to my family, and community as much as I could. The Foundation has always been a part of my life and something I always feel good about as they allow me to do what I can to help. Because I see the good that Parkview does for its patients, their families and its employees – I knew I wanted to do something in addition to volunteering. So, I am an annual donor to the Foundation,” Roy said.

Among the many people Roy donates in honor of, two of those are his father, whom he lost in 1995, and his partner of 26 years who passed away in 2003. Roy has given in multiple ways; previously as a Parkview co-worker to the Parkview Foundation Employee Generosity Campaign for many years through payroll deduction and PTO donations, as well as donating to the Cancer Center, and now, the Parkview Cancer Institute.
