With summer in full swing and fall right around the corner, it’s a great time to travel. Driving is a cost-effective option for getting to your desired destinations, but long hours in the car can be taxing on our bodies. Taking time to ensure that we are in an optimal position, whether driving or riding along as a passenger, allows us to enjoy our time away without experiencing any discomfort while on vacation.

Seat setup

Before you start your journey, it’s essential to set up your seating position correctly. Begin by adjusting your seat height so that your hips and knees are at the same level. Next, tilt the backrest slightly beyond 90 degrees, aiming for an angle of 100-110 degrees. This will help alleviate pressure on your lower back. Finally, adjust the lumbar support to maintain the natural curve of your spine. Once you’ve completed these steps, ensure you can comfortably reach both the gas and brake pedals.

Posture

Another area of importance is maintaining good posture throughout the trip. Sit all the way back in the seat to avoid slouching. Also, avoid leaning to either side. Put emphasis on keeping your head and shoulders back and upright to avoid needless strain during your travels.

Breaks

When logging a lot of hours on the road, allow yourself to take breaks every two to three hours, encouraging movement and getting out of the stationary position. Getting up and moving improves circulation during these extensive drives. Light stretching is encouraged to help with soreness and stiffness associated with long periods of sitting. These stops can also serve as an opportunity to keep us fresh and more alert on the road.

By adhering to these simple guidelines, we can significantly enhance our travel experience. You can arrive at your destination feeling more refreshed and ready to enjoy quality time with your loved ones rather than needing to recover from the journey. So, let’s make our next road trip a comfortable and enjoyable one!
