Winter can be a challenging time to stay active, especially when it's cold and dark outside. Still, with a little creativity and motivation, there are many ways to keep moving and maintain a healthy lifestyle, even during the chillier months.

Ready, set, go!

Here are our top ten ideas to get you started and keep you moving this season:

  1. Online workouts – Many websites offer a wide variety of free workouts for all fitness levels. You can try everything from cardio and strength training to yoga and Pilates from the comfort of your home.
  2. Get your game on – Interactive gaming systems are a fun way to get moving while enjoying some friendly competition with family and friends. Try choosing the dance or sports games. They will do a great job of getting your heart rate up.
  3. Laser tag – If you're looking for a more adrenaline-fueled activity, try laser tag. This high-energy game is a great way to get your heart pumping while having fun with others.
  4. Clean the house while listening to music – Doing household chores can be a great way to get moving, especially when adding upbeat music to the mix.
  5. Dance your way to health – Why not host a private dance party for you and your friends? Pick your favorite playlist, turn up the volume and let loose with some signature moves!
  6. Step it up – Stairs are a great way to get a quick workout in, even when you're short on time. Try going up and down your stairs for a few minutes each day. You can do it during breaks in your favorite shows or as a standalone workout.
  7. Join a class – Participating in a fitness class can be a great way to stay active during winter. You'll have the support and motivation of others, plus a qualified instructor to help you get the most out of your workout.
  8. Show your pets some love – Playing with your pets is an excellent way to get moving and have fun. Try going for a walk, playing fetch or simply running around the house with them.
  9. Take advantage of the snow – Snow and winter weather can be a great excuse to get outside. Try sledding or having a snowball fight for a nostalgic way to increase your heart rate.
  10. Go shopping – If you can, try walking to the grocery store. You’ll get your steps in while checking another task off your list and stocking your home with healthy food and meal options.
