In our office, we often hear people talk about their desire to rewind the effects of aging. We have a wonderful, non-invasive option. The plasma pen is a highly effective treatment to help tighten the skin and provide natural collagen-boosting results. Plasma fibroblast therapy is a strong alternative or complement to microneedling, laser therapy and/or chemical peels.
What is plasma fibroblast therapy?
Plasma fibroblast therapy targets fibroblasts, which are collagen- and protein-producing cells in the dermis, the layer of the skin just below your outermost skin layer. Fibroblasts play an important role in helping skin wounds heal as well as maintaining the skin’s firmness and tightness.
Plasma fibroblast therapy uses a pen-like device that discharges a high-frequency electric current to small areas of the skin. The plasma tip doesn’t directly touch the skin, but instead, releases a targeted current just above the skin. The hot current creates small holes or micro injuries in the skin’s layer. This helps promote the production of collagen and elastin to heal these micro injuries, thus tightening the skin.
What are the benefits of fibroblast therapy?
The plasma pen offers a nonsurgical option with little downtime for those looking for a natural alternative to surgery for skin tightening and improvement. It can be used for wrinkling skin around the eyelids, mouth, upper and lower lip, lip flip, neck, jawline, abdomen, knees and stomach, as well as stretch marks and scarring.
Is plasma fibroblast therapy effective?
It can improve the skin’s overall texture. It provides mild-to-moderate skin tightening effects without surgical intervention. Results vary and some patients may need more than one treatment to notice a significant change. It’s important to discuss whether or not you are a good candidate for this treatment with your provider before moving forward
Is plasma fibroblast therapy painful?
Patients are prepped with a numbing cream over the area of treatment for 20-40 minutes prior to the treatment. Most patients report a mild discomfort during treatment and the sensation of a sunburn for up to 24 hours following the procedure.
How long does it take to recover?
Once your procedure is completed, you will be left with tiny dots on the area of treatment. These will then scab over in the week (seven days) following. They will fall off within one week. It typically takes 8-12 weeks of healing before you will start to notice your skin growing tighter and firmer. Some patients may require a second treatment. This treatment can be completed as soon as 12 weeks for repeated therapy.
Real results
(Before on the left, after on the right. Both were taken only seven days after procedure and will continue to have improvement long after one week. Note that this patient also had a “lip flip,” which uses the patient’s own collagen and elastin to flip their lips outward.)
