How to maintain your insulin pump

Diseases & Disorders, Family Medicine

Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects how your body turns food into energy. Often, this means your body doesn’t make enough insulin naturally or can’t use it as well as it should. If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with the condition, you’ve likely had the choice of using an insulin pump to help regulate your blood sugar. And while utilizing a pump is a personal preference, it is an efficient and effective way to manage the condition because they offer a steady stream of insulin throughout the day and are more favorable than insulin pen injections.

Despite all the conveniences an insulin pump offers, a diabetes diagnosis is still a life-changing event that can seem overwhelming, especially when learning all the self-management skills that come with it. Knowing this, we turned to Kate Feher-Tanner, RN, diabetes care and education specialist, Diabetes Care Services, for some much-needed guidance. Join us as she discusses the intricacies of various models while walking us through the steps of changing and maintaining your insulin pump.
