Tracie Martin’s daily activities typically revolve around serving. Between her career and her many hours volunteering, she works with a variety of individuals — from veterans battling Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, to children who have lost a loved one. Putting others first comes naturally to Tracie, both at home with her family and while she’s out serving our community.

Tracie keeps a busy schedule as the Community Counts Account Executive at WANE-TV. She also serves on six different boards, including Erin’s House for Grieving Children, an organization that Tracie helped found. But on August 24, 2016 she faced a new experience. As a Diamond Engagement participant, Tracie was invited to spend a day shadowing various health professionals at Parkview. This gave her the opportunity to see first-hand the detailed, skilled, challenging and often miraculous work that happens within the walls of a hospital. These moments make up the stories of patients who walk through the doors of Parkview Regional Medical Center and the Parkview Heart Institute, and now, Tracie has her own story to share. This time from a new perspective.

Tracie Martin’s Diamond Engagement Day Experience

The moment I put on my scrubs in the early hours I was completely captivated. It was an incredible day watching cath [sic] and endoscopic cancer procedures.

I felt like I was an involved member of the team. I was asked by the Parkview physicians to join in on morning meetings in the NICU. That was an incredible and thrilling experience on its own, and it was magnified by the fact that the physicians yearned to share their work with us. They genuinely wanted us to be up close and fully understand what they were doing – with the utmost respect for the patient.

During the day there were small, intermittent breaks in rounds. With this time, I couldn’t help but think about the investment in top notch, cutting edge equipment that saves patients unnecessary surgeries and pain. I was told this was due, in large part, to the generosity of Parkview Foundation donors.

The pure joy and sense of gratification these doctors and nurses expressed truly displayed how much people love working for Parkview. This experience deepened my respect for Parkview and their investment in equipment and talent.  Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff who were so generous and enthusiastic with their time.
