This month, Leah Morken, RN, BSN, will join the Emergency Room team at Parkview Hospital Randallia. We caught up with the recent Manchester University graduate to see how she is feeling about starting her healthcare career at Parkview Health.

What motivated you to go into nursing?

I've always wanted to work in healthcare due to a passion for the sciences and caring for others. I am also fortunate to have so many nurse role models in my life and have considered nursing for this reason as well.

More recently, I’ve had the opportunity to work as a patient care rechnician in the Parkview Randallia ER for the past few years, and this helped solidify my decision to pursue nursing. The nursing staff I work with have a passion for teaching, mentoring and guiding technicians like myself. Through this opportunity, I found that I love working on a team, providing bedside care, and developing unique relationships with patients; something I wanted to do every day, and realized that nursing was it!

What drew you to Parkview?

To me, Parkview feels like family and a second home. I've witnessed the incredible teamwork and patient care that Parkview provides, and I couldn't be more excited to start my nursing journey here.

I’ve also chosen Parkview as it provides a safe space for learning, growth, and constant support which I find incredibly important as a new graduate nurse.

How did Parkview support you in the transition between nursing school and beginning your career?

I was honored and privileged to receive the Questa scholarship, which allowed for financial support through nursing school. My Randallia ER team has also been extremely supportive through constant words of encouragement and help whenever needed.

What most excites you about being a Parkview nurse?

I am excited to be a Parkview nurse because of all the opportunities this organization has to offer. It is also a blessing to start a nursing career with the people I admire as healthcare professionals and hope to learn from daily.

How has your family helped you in your education and transition to team Parkview?

My Aunt Tammy [Morken, MBA, BSN, RN] has been a constant source of support through my nursing discernment, education and transition to Parkview. She has always been a role model for me. She's an amazing nurse, mother, sister and aunt. I so admire her character and commitment to others. She has been my go-to person for any/all questions, comfort in times of doubt, and constant encouragement to pursue my passions.
