A checklist for your holiday travels

Safety & Prevention, Family Medicine

The holidays and winter months share more than chilly weather. They also both occur during cold and virus season. Safeguarding your well-being is key to enjoying time with friends and family. If you're traveling this holiday season, consider packing these essentials for a healthy trip.

Hand sanitizer

Regular handwashing is always a good idea, especially during respiratory virus season. Hand sanitizer is an easy and convenient way to help protect yourself against the spread of germs and is convenient when hand washing isn't accessible. For optimal effectiveness, check the product label to ensure it contains at least 60% alcohol.

Snacks

When you're on the go, it can be easy to skip a meal. Proper nutrition is important to support your immune system. Pack a small variety of snacks that you can access at the ready. Protein bars, nuts and dried fruit are some healthy, portable options.

Water

It's no secret that traveling puts strain on the body. Staying hydrated keeps the body functioning properly and helps ward off headaches and achy joints. Keep a bottle of water (or two!) to sip on throughout your journey.

Medications

Remember to pack your medications where you can reach them. A day of travel can easily throw you off your routine. Set an alarm on your phone as a reminder to take any time-sensitive medications. Bring your daily vitamin and pain reliever or fever reducer, just in case.

Sleep mask

Quality sleep is a key factor in staying healthy. If you have a long journey ahead of you, consider bringing a sleep mask to create a makeshift environment for power naps between flights or rest stop breaks.
