Sports & Exercise

Everywhere you turn, there are warnings about the negative effects of our current lifestyle; Sitting is the new smoking. Only shop the perimeter of the grocery store. Slow down and remember to breathe. We are eating out of convenience and working to meet the demands of our face-paced professional climate. One of the many well-being elements that suffers from this environment is exercise. We often aren’t moving enough. But what if we told you we had some suggestions for simple moves you can do anywhere? Hannah Hoffman, wellness coach, Parkview Health, shares a collection of convenient, strength-building exercises you can do in your office, at home or on the go. All you need is a little motivation and a resistance band.

Q. What are the benefits of a resistance band?

People can get an effective total body workout with the band. It’s small, light, and can be easily stored or transported. It is simple to use and offers enough resistance for all levels. You can play around with the resistance through their hand placement to increase/decrease the tension.

Q. How can people fit these exercises into their busy workday?

The beauty of these exercises is that anyone can do them wherever they are as long as they have the resistance band with them. For example, you can fit these exercises into a busy workday by doing them on your lunch break, before or after work (start/end the day with them), or when you are on a conference call. People can choose to do all the exercises or one – anything is beneficial.

Q. What is the goal with resistance band training?

The goal for resistance band training is to help increase physical activity and to help work on building and/or maintaining muscle strength.
