Galentine’s Day, observed every year on February 13, is a tribute to the women who get you, show up for you and appreciate you. It’s a holiday for toasting friendship and sisterhood, and a perfect excuse for making plans to treat each other and toast each other. Gather your girlfriends and schedule some special time together. Not sure how to mark the occassion? We have some suggestions.
10 ways to celebrate Galentine’s Day
Take a stroll. Bundle up and carve out an hour or so for a leisurely walk or hike through the woods. Meet downtown and check out the new treetop trail in Promenade Park.
Schedule a spa day. A little pampering is good for your health. Make an appointment for a massage or skin treatment. Considering a pedicure? Make sure you review these important pointers from our podiatrist.
Dine in. If you’re looking to add new recipes and techniques to your repertoire, consider signing up for a cooking class at the Community Greenhouse and Learning Kitchen. Looking for something more casual? Stay in your jammies and whip up a cozy brunch.
Partner up for prevention. It might not be the first thing that comes to mind, but scheduling a date for a health screening is a perfect way to show appreciation for the women you care for. We recommend the Francine’s Friends mobile mammography coach, a HeartSmart CT scan or vascular heart screening.
Sisters who sweat together … Slip into something supportive and comfortable – just like your friendship – and get moving! You can register for a number of exercise classes, from Chair Yoga to Energy Dance, through the Parkview Center for Healthy Living. See the schedule on our list of Classes and Events.
Reveal your dreams. One of the best things about having good girlfriends is sharing your hopes and aspirations. Grab some coffee or hot tea and chat about the goals you working toward these days. Sharing these ambitions with someone close to you is a great way to gain support and accountability.
Repurpose pages. Whether it’s of the fiction, non-fiction or picture variety, surely there’s book that’s impacted your journey. Write something in the front cover and pass it on to a woman in your life who would benefit from the pages.
I-O-U. Get crafty and assemble a coupon book filled with thoughtful promises. Need some inspiration? Consider:
- An emergency chat session (good any hour)
- One power walk
- Two freezer meals
- Three hours of babysitting (just because)
- A coffee date (in pajamas)
- An honest opinion
- A warm hug
Hit the ice. Play like children again at the Headwaters Park Ice Rink. Ice skating is fun, a great form of exercise and a perfect excuse for hot cocoa afterward. (Don’t forget these tips about proper fit and skate accessories.)
Gift your gals. From a face cream or bath soak, to a kitchen gadget or perfectly labeled day planner, every woman has a collection of favorite things that help her navigate through the week. Get a group of ladies together, have each one wrap up and bring a go-to product and take turns picking from the gifts.
