Overview
When hospitalized due to a severe illness, there are times that an individual may require mechanical ventilator support. While these life-saving measures are designed to help in emergent situations, there may be implications for the mechanically ventilated individual that might require further treatment with antimicrobial therapy. Individuals who are mechanically ventilated are generally sicker and may be compromised with microorganisms resistant to many common antibiotics making treatment more challenging.
