December is coming to a close and January is a few short weeks away. Holiday treats and large family meals are winding down, and for many of us, the new year means new resolutions. If one of your goals for 2017 is healthy weight management, Kathy Wehrle, RDN, CD, registered dietician nutritionist, Parkview Center for Healthy Living, has a few helpful strategies for you to start thinking about.
Eat volumetrically.
Choose nutrient-dense foods that are high in fiber and water (think non-starchy vegetables like broccoli). These are foods that will fill you up and keep you full, but are low in calories.
Be mindful.
Take note of your eating habits and be careful not to eat mindlessly. Think about the choices you are making and practice impulse control.
Find an accountability partner.
Track what you’re eating and the changes you’re making to your diet and exercise routines, and share them with your partner. Having an accountability partner will also help you practice mindfulness.
Adjust your environment.
Success is easier with preparation. Make health easy by planning and prepping meals, and making sure your environment supports your new lifestyle changes.
Find your why.
Base your weight loss goals on something meaningful to you – your personal values.
To learn more about these concepts and how you can implement them on your weight management journey, join the Parkview Center for Healthy Living at the Healthy Weight Management Conference. Listen to presenters, including Kathy, gather resources and equip yourself with the knowledge needed to effectively manage your body weight and succeed in whatever goals you set.
