About Health Services and Informatics Research

Research projects primarily focus on the areas of mental health, cardiology, public health, data science, human-computer interaction and health informatics. The HSIR team partners with Parkview clinicians and patients to conduct research for the health system and initiator-led projects ranging from focus groups and online surveys to workflow and technology evaluation. The HSIR team also collaborates with community partners to conduct research to better serve our community.

A significant body of HSIR work employs health informatics and human-computer interaction techniques to inform the design of technology-aided healthcare solutions to achieve improved health outcomes, facilitated by accessible information and shared decision-making among patients and care providers.

The HSIR team supports the development, evaluation, and maintenance of Parkview Health initiatives and larger community studies. We provide help from project conceptualization, study design, study execution, data analysis and dissemination.

User experience

User Experience (UX) falls beneath the umbrella of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and is an interdisciplinary field that leverages principles from computer science, cognitive and social psychology, ergonomics and human factors, engineering, design, and others.

The study of UX helps uncover unarticulated needs and identify solutions using a variety of validated scientific research methods. UX research aims to align product and business strategy with the core needs and goals of the users.

UX research involves testing products with real users in the target demographic to find pain points, discover creative solutions and gather other valuable feedback from real users. The data collected from UX research is used to inform design changes or process updates.
