How to Apply for the OB/GYN Residency Program

The Parkview Health OB/GYN residency program is Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited.

All applications for an OB/GYN residency position at Parkview Health must be submitted through The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) application platform, ResidencyCAS. Any information submitted outside of ResidencyCAS cannot be accepted.

All Parkview Health OB/GYN residency program applicants must participate in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP).

Minimum requirements

Minimum requirements for U.S. graduates:

  • Completed ResidencyCAS application.
  • Graduate from either a U.S. medical or osteopathic school: accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA).
  • United States Medical Licensing Examination® (USMLE®) scores. Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination of the United States (COMLEX-USA) scores are accepted in lieu of USMLE scores for osteopathic applicants. Although there is no minimum, you must have passed each exam.
  • Three letters of recommendation – one of which must come from either a Department Chair or Program Director and one must follow the Standardized Letter of Evaluation (SLOE) format.
  • Medical school graduation date must be within 2 years of starting residency.
  • Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE).
  • Medical school transcript.
  • Personal statement.
  • Applicants must provide results for both parts of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 2 or COMLEX Level 2 before the NRMP rank list deadline in mid-February of the following year.

Supplemental ResidencyCAS application

Our program participates in the supplemental ResidencyCAS application. Applicants will be required to complete the ResidencyCAS application, and participation in the supplemental ResidencyCAS application is optional.

The additional information will help our program staff learn more about applicants’ medical education journey, including more meaningful information about work, volunteer, and research experiences, and help us better identify applicants who fit our program environment and mission.

Interviews

Interview dates will be posted in Fall 2024.

Interviews will be conducted virtually between November of the current year and January of the following year to fill our residency class. ResidencyCAS will be utilized to schedule and conduct interviews.  If invited, you will receive an email from ResidencyCAS to schedule your interview.

Formal interviews will be held with the Program Director, Associate Program Directors and various OB/GYN faculty. The interview day will include a combination of assessments to identify applicants best suited to succeed in our program, while providing an introduction to Parkview Health’s mission, vision, values and daily operations.

Applicants will be evaluated on personal, academic, and patient-care qualities during the interview process.

We encourage each applicant to come prepared with their own questions.  

NRMP Match

Following the NRMP Match, applicants matching to one of our specialty programs will begin orientation around mid-June.

Frequently asked questions

What are the minimum requirements for international medical graduates?

International medical school graduates (IMGs) will be considered for admission into all Parkview Health’s specialty programs. IMGs must be certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

Note: Parkview Health only supports J-1 Visas.

Minimum requirements for international medical graduates (IMG):

  • Completed ResidencyCAS profile
  • Graduate from an international medical school currently listed as “approved” by the Indiana Medical Licensing Board. If you are an IMG, please click here to verify that your school meets the criteria, and is included on the list before you apply.
  • Submission of USMLE Step 1 Score; USMLE Step 2 CK submission is highly encouraged. Although there is no minimum score, you must have passed each exam.
  • Three letters of recommendation - one of which must come from either a Department Chair or a Program Director.
  • Medical school transcript.
  • Personal statement.
  • Clinical experience in the U.S. is highly encouraged, but not mandatory.
  • Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
  • Certificate acquired at the time of ResidencyCAS application.
Are there cutoff scores?

No, a comprehensive view is used to determine best fit with a specialty program.

What is the interview selection process?

Interviews will be conducted between October of the current year and January of the following year. Invitations are extended by email.

Personal interviews are by invitation only and are based on the information in the applicant’s application, including:

  • Academic performance.
  • USMLE or COMLEX scores*.
  • Letters of recommendation.
  • Other accomplishments.

U.S. applicants must schedule USMLE or COMLEX exams and report their Step 1 and Step 2 CK or Level 1 or 2 COMLEX scores to ensure that NGMC can download the results of these exams before the NRMP rank list deadline in mid-February. All pass-fail results need to be submitted to the program at the time they are obtained by the trainee.

What is the residency match process?

All appointments are made through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) in March. Applicants must register through the NRMP website in addition to submitting their application through ResidencyCAS.

What is the credentialing process and start date?

Resident physicians must be fully credentialed by the Parkview Health Office of Graduate Medical Education prior to commencement of their respective training program. Appointment to a Parkview Health specialty program is conditional and contingent upon successful completion of the appointment and credentialing process, which includes:

  • Satisfactory criminal background check and drug test.
  • Verification of satisfactory prior training (if applicable).
  • Eligibility for employment in the United States and in the State of Indiana.

Mandatory, in-person orientation begins 10 business days prior to July 1. Resident physicians are paid for orientation days. If applicable, resident physicians must also comply with the credentialing requirements of participating non-Parkview Health training sites.
