General Surgery Residency Curriculum

Curriculum overview

Our General Surgery Residency Program is designed to provide you with all the resources necessary to succeed. Our curriculum includes:

  • Clinical competency-based didactics and training.
  • Direct involvement in systems-based care through multidisciplinary rounds and interaction with case management on all rotations.
  • Incorporation of trainees into our culture of safety.
  • Comprehensive and formal training on the da Vinci Robotic system and new surgical technology.
  • Focus on resident well-being and transition from resident to attending.
  • Nationally renowned experts as visiting professors and distinguished institutional speakers.

Curriculum overview

Morbidity & Mortality Conference (M&M)

Held weekly and attended by all residents and faculty.

Grand Rounds

Held twice a month and attended by all residents and faculty. Speakers will consist of residents, faculty and visiting professors.

Resident Didactics

Held weekly for two hours and will follow the SCORE curriculum. The American Board of Surgery In-Training Examination (ABSITE) Review will be in January leading up to the exam.

Simulation Lab (Sim Lab)

Held one or two times a month and will follow FES/FLS curriculum.

Case Conferences/Mock Orals

Held three times a month.

Professional Development Conference (PD)

Held once a month and includes a “Residents as teachers and leadership” series.

Journal Club

Held once a month during academic half day to promote resident – faculty engagement. Topics will be based on timely and impactful literature and will be presented by residents and moderated by faculty.

Specialty Conferences

Includes: Trauma Peer Review, Trauma Quality Improvement, Thoracic, Breast Tumor Board and Breast Tumor Site Teams.
