Meet the program director: Kenneth S. Yew, MD, MPH, FAAFP
Dear residency candidate,
Thank you for your interest in the Parkview Health Family Medicine Residency Program! We are honored that you are considering partnering with us for such a formative step on your journey of lifelong learning and service to others as a family physician.
At Parkview, our mission is to train resident physicians in the principles and practice of full-spectrum family medicine and to develop physicians who provide excellent whole person care in collaboration with the patient, their family, community and the entire healthcare team. The residency program endeavors to recruit, train and retain residents with an emphasis on belonging and health equity and to ensure all resident physicians are equipped to serve patients and underserved populations locally, nationally, and globally.
Our new family medicine clinic is designed to provide a supportive training environment for family medicine residents while serving as a medical home for our community. The Parkview Mirro Center for Research and Innovation will support resident physician teaching through simulation and research benefitting those in our community and beyond. Finally, leadership, administration and faculty look forward to providing a collaborative, challenging and enriching clinical experience for incoming resident physicians as we continue to build a truly outstanding residency program.
Our residency program is in northeast Indiana, right in the heart of a thriving community that's perfect for young professionals and families to live, work and grow. Fort Wayne is Indiana’s second-largest city and recently named by US News & World Report as the Most Affordable Place to Live in the U.S. citing its lower cost of living, growing employment opportunities, booming economy and lower housing costs. Our family-friendly community offers the perfect environment for resident physicians to grow both professionally and personally, supported by a health system dedicated to expanding services to meet our community's evolving needs.
I was born in Fort Wayne, grew up in Northern Michigan and eventually received a Naval medical school scholarship. I served in multiple duty stations around the world as a general medical officer and family physician including as residency faculty and medical school faculty. After retiring from the Navy in Virginia, I served as a family physician in a federally qualified community health center and in a private practice before moving to serve as faculty in a new family medicine residency in Wisconsin. What drew me to Parkview is the quality of the organization, its strong commitment to graduate medical education, the opportunity to help begin a family medicine residency and the chance to be closer to our family. If you are interested in training in an exceptional hospital system to be an outstanding family physician in a dynamic, growing and safe community, we would love to have you join us as we serve and grow together.
