Graduating seniors from across Northeast Indiana and Northwest Ohio were honored for their academic excellence, athletic acheivement and community contributions with Gemlick/Albright Parkview Sports Medicine Excellence Scholarships.
Virtual ceremonies were held Monday, July 13 through Thursday, July 16 on Parkview Sports Medicine's Facebook page.
About the Gemlick/Albright Parkview Sports Medicine Scholarships
Student-athletes were nominated by the Parkview Sports Medicine athletic trainer assigned to their schools. Eligible student-athletes must participate in one sport their senior year, hold a grade point average of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale or 9.0 on a 12.0 scale. In all, 50 nominees represent 23 different PSM-partnered high schools, and are set into four scholarship groups: Fort Wayne Community Schools, other Allen County Schools, schools outside and west of Allen County and schools outside and east of Allen County.
The Gemlick/Albright Parkview Sports Medicine Excellence Scholarships have been awarded since 2003-04, and bear the name of two late SportONE physicians: Dr. Brett F. Gemlick, who passed away in October 2019; and Dr. James E. Albright, who passed away in 1993. The Gemlick/Albright Scholarships are made possible through donations through the Parkview Foundation.
Gemlick/Albright Parkview Sports Medicine Excellence Scholarship - Fort Wayne Community Schools: Jamauria Paige of South Side High School
Jamauria Paige cheered for 4 years and was set to play tennis for her 4th season this spring at South Side. Jamauria was a 2-year captain on the Archers cheer squad, and earned the Most Spirit award twice. In tennis, she earned one varsity letter. Jamauria has also danced for four years, performing for the top dance level as a freshman and serving as a teacher’s assistant for 3 years. She earned a 3.32 GPA. She will attend Ivy Tech Community College and major in nursing.

2020 Gemlick/Albright Parkview Sports Medicine Excellence Scholarship - Allen County: Quaon Williams of New Haven High School
Quaon Williams played basketball for 3 seasons at New Haven, and was part of a team that advanced to regionals before the rest of the state tournament was canceled. He earned two varsity letters, and a team award for dedication and improvement. He earned a 3.8 GPA in the classroom, and was named Academic All-State Honorable Mention. Quaon plans to study education at Indiana University, and has helped 8th-grade math classes at New Haven Junior High School and could often be found reading to preschoolers at New Haven Primary School. He is also active with the Boys & Girls Club of Fort Wayne and Fort Wayne UNITED community organization.
2020 Gemlick/Albright Parkview Sports Medicine Excellence Scholarship - Carter Fleck Memorial Scholarship: Andrew Miller of Woodlan High School
Each year, Parkview Sports Medicine awards the Carter Fleck Memorial Scholarship as part of the Gemlick/Albright ceremonies. The award is named for Carter Fleck, a 17-year-old Homestead High School who died of cancer in 2016; and goes to a student-athlete who demonstrates exceptional character. The 5th annual Carter Fleck Memorial Scholarship goes to Andrew Miller of Woodlan High School.
Andrew played football for 4 years at Woodlan, and was part of the 2A state runner-up team as a sophomore. He also wrestled 3 years for the Warriors, for whom he was a captain and earned Academic All-State Honorable Mention. He also was named Principal Academic Award winner, Woodlan Scholar-Athlete honors. He earned a 3.3989 GPA. He plans to study physical therapy in college.

2020 Gemlick/Albright Parkview Sports Medicine Excellence Scholarship - Outside Allen County (West): Ethan Garza of Wawasee High School
Ethan Garza competed in football, baseball and track & field at Wawasee. On the gridiron, he was named Northern Lakes Conference Offensive Player of the Year, as well as 1st team All-Conference. He also earned Academic All-NLC in all three sports. Ethan has done Kosciusko County 4-H for 9 years, winning reserve grand champion barrow in 2019. He also is a member of the Milford Helping Hands Club and served as a student athletic trainer for Wawasee athletics this school year. Ethan earned a 10.71 GPA on a 12-point scale, and plans to study exercise science at Trine University.
2020 Gemlick/Albright Parkview Sports Medicine Excellence Scholarship - Outside of Allen County (West): Jayce Riegling of Lakeland High School
Jayce Riegling earned multiple letters while playing baseball, basketball and football at Lakeland. During his senior year, Jayce organized a homerun derby for competitors across the Northeast Corner Conference. The event served as a fundraiser for Hello Gorgeous!, a Mishawaka-based nonprofit organization that provides free professional makeovers and cosmetic education for women battling cancer. Additionally, Jayce was president of the school business club, competed in sports marketing competitions, and served as a peer coach for fellow students. Jayce will attend Indiana University and study sports management, marketing and entrepreneurship.

2020 Gemlick/Albright Parkview Sports Medicine Excellence Scholarship - Outside Allen County (East): Alyssa Fuller of Antwerp High School
Alyssa Fuller played softball, basketball and volleyball at Antwerp. She was a member of the state champion Lady Archer softball team as a sophomore; and was Division IV District 7 All-Star in Volleyball. Alyssa is this year’s Antwerp valedictorian with a 4.0 GPA, earning All-Academic Team and Green Meadows Conference Scholar Athlete. Alyssa also participates in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Teachers of America and National Honor Society. She is heading to Bowling Green State University, and hopes to one day be a speech pathologist in a school setting.
