South Side basketball a family affair for Chapman Sisters & mother

In 2016-17, ParkviewSportsMedicine.com profiled South Side's Chapman Sisters, Alaya and TaNiece, their mother, Roniece Woodson, and the effort the entire family to make sure basketball was the door of opportunity. In addition to Alaya signing with Huntington in 2020, TaNiece plays for Goshen College.

South Side High School basketball standout is heading to Huntington University to play her college basketball.

Chapman signed on to join the Lady Foresters on April 22, the team announced.

"We are really excited to have Alaya join our program," Huntington head coach Lori Culler said in a statement. "She's a versatile player who could play several different positions for us. She has great vision on the court and is an unselfish player who is willing to make the extra pass."

Chapman averaged 10.1 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists, and 1.7 steal per game as a senior. She was named All-State Honorable Mention honors, All-Summit Athletic Conference 3rd Team, and All-Northeast Indiana Honorable Mention. For her high school career, Chapman finished with 8.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game.
