The Indiana High School Athletic Association canceled the entire Spring 2020 sports season on April 2.
The announcement came minutes after Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb issued an executive order closing all K-12 schools across the Hoosier State for the remainder of the school year. The Indiana Department of Education announced remote learning opportunities will continue as part of the closures.
This effects the sports of baseball, softball, boys and girls track & field, girls tennis, boys golf and unified sports.
"The Indiana High School Athletic Association staunchly supports our Governor, our State Commissioner of Health and our State Superintendent of Public Instruction in their herculean efforts," the organization said in a statement. "It is imperative that our students, coaches, officials, administrators and parents be encouraged in every manner to adhere to the guidance provided by our leadership."
The IHSAA earlier postponed, then canceled, the boys basketball state tournament for the first time ever, and halted the start of the spring sport season.
