West Noble High School senior was one of 24 student-athletes honored by the Indiana Football Coaches Association with the Salutatorian Award.
The award specificially honors saluatorians who made the IFCA Academic All-State teams, which focuses on achievement in the classroom. Mawhorter has earned a 4.3 grade point average and scored a 1430 on his SAT. He plans to go to Purdue University and study engineering. He is the son of West Noble football coach Monte Mawhorter.
Mawhorter was presented a plaque highlighting his accomplishment during the West Noble basketball game on February 22.
On the football team, Mawhorter played quarterback for the Chargers, and led them to a 10-1 finish and the Northeast Corner Conference's Big Division championship this past season. He threw for 789 yards, 13 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. He rushed for another 95 yards and 3 touchdowns. Mawhorter earned All-NECC honors.
He also plays basketball at West Noble.
