When Claire Sinn broke the the all-time scoring mark at the district final on February 28, it was as much of an indicator of her success as it was for the team's success.
Sinn, a senior guard, now sits at 1,469 career points after scoring 24 in the Lady Raiders' 60-49 district final win over Ottoville. She set the record midway through the first quarter with a 3-pointer.
"It puts into perspective all the hard work I've put in," Sinn tells ParkviewSportsMedicine.com. "I've played with a lot of good teammates, and they've always got my back."
Sinn's quest for the school record--which was 1,447 point set by Erin Mohr in 2016--became a realistic goal over the summer for her and her coaches.
"Her scoring ability has been constant," head coach Bethany DeJarnett says. "We were able to use her as a freshman and get a lot of contributions out of her."
One of the Sinns' assets in her offensive game has been her defense. Earlier in the season, Sinn broke the school record for career steels, which was 288 set by Natalie Davis in 2002.
Collectively, Wayne Trace's team success has mirrored that of Sinn'. The Lady Raiders have won four-straight Green Meadows Conference titles and three consecutive sectional titles , and the program's two district titles ever in the last 3 seasons.
"We've had things we've wanted to accomplish and the girls bought into that. There's a been a lot of good leadership."
Now, the Lady Raiders are looking for their first regional title. They'll face Kalida at 8 p.m. on March 3 in the regional semi-final at Elida.
"I knew that we could get this far, and I'm happy that we have."
