Success breeds success for Northrop boys soccer

October 3, 2018

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Northrop boys soccer once again enters the postseason as one of Northeast Indiana’s top teams to watch.

The Bruins clinched their 3rd straight Summit Athletic Conference championship Sept. 18; that also accounts for their 4th league title in the last 5 seasons.

“We’re all good friends out of school, so that helps,” senior forward/midfielder Erdwin Quintana says. “The trust starts with how we come out in practice and communicate with each other.”  Quintana led the SAC in goal scoring (24), including hat tricks in 3 games.

Northrop (11-3-2) started 8-1 before losing 2 straight against Homestead and Carroll midway through the season. Since then, the Bruins have survived a tough schedule heading into sectionals. After drawing a bye, they’ll seek revenge against the Chargers in the 3A Carroll Sectional 6 semi-final at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

“Carroll’s a very good team. We have a lot of respect for them,” head coach Billy Foreman tells ParkviewSportsMedicine.com. “I think we learned (from the first match) that we need to pick up our pace of play and not be so predictable.”

Dwenger, which also beat Northrop earlier in the year, is in the same sectional.

In recent years, success has bred success for Northrop. The Bruins are looking for their third-straight sectional title, also. Northrop lost to Hamilton Southeastern in the regional semi-final a year ago and to West Noble in the regional title game in 2016.
