FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Wayne High School has joined a growing list of Indiana high schools to be recognized as a Unified Champion School.
The honor recognizes Wayne for its work during the 2016-17 school year to create a culture of inclusion for students with intellectual disabilities. The Champions Together initiative is a partnership between the Indiana High School Athletic Association and the Special Olympics of Indiana. Unified Schools are recognized for inclusion, respect, fundraising and Unified Sports participation.
Wayne was presented a Unified Champions banner and $1,500 check from Special Olympics Indiana at halftime of the Aug. 18 football game against Bishop Dwenger.
Hundreds of schools statewide have been recognized as Unified Champion Schools.
