Five Wayne High School seniors made their college athletic commitments official on Thursday, putting pen to paper during a signing ceremony.
Emilia Diaz will continue her basketball career at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, an NCAA Division III program in Terre Haute, Indiana. Emilia averaged 7.6 points and 2.9 rebounds per game for her Wayne career (84 games). The Lady Generals finished with 15 wins this past season—the most in 20 years. Emilia plans to study mechanical engineering.
Basketball teammate Shabrea O’Quinn is heading to Marian University Ancilla College, a junior college in Plymouth, Indiana. In 58 games at Wayne, Shabrea averaged 10.9 points and 7.6 rebounds. She earned 2nd Team All-Summit Athletic Conference honors as a senior. She plans to study exercise science with hopes of being an ultrasound technician.
Felicity Stockman has committed to the women’s wrestling program at Carthage College, an NCAA Division III program in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Felicity helped start the Wayne girls wrestling team four years ago; and she is believed to be the first female student-athlete in Fort Wayne Community Schools to wrestle in college. Felicity placed 2nd at the girls state wrestling finals as a freshman and fourth at state a junior. She is also a recognized taekwando world champion. Felicity plans to study business management, and hopes to become a real estate agent.
Makii Germaine will compete in the long jump for the Indiana Tech men’s track & field team, an NAIA program in Fort Wayne. Makii placed fourth in the long jump at the SAC meet on May 4. His best jump is 18’11 inches, set earlier this week at dual meet with South Side. He plans to study robotic engineering.
Jenisse Guzman is joining the women’s volleyball program at the University of Saint Francis, an NAIA program in Fort Wayne. Jenisse increased her production with the Generals volleyball team this past season, tallying 50 digs in 65 sets. Jenisse plans to study graphic design.
