Five Snider Panthers will continue their athletic careers at the next level, signing on to college choices during a ceremony on Thursday.
Max Malone will play football at Franklin College, an NCAA Division III program just south of Indianapolis. Max played defensive end for the Panthers, earning 1st Team All-Summit Athletic Conference honors as senior. This past season, he recorded 60 tackles (30 solo, 27 assisted), two sacks and two fumble recoveries. He plans to study psychology.
Max’s Snider teammate De’Marreia Stephens will also be his teammate at Franklin College. De’Marreia tallied 23 tackles (9 solo, 14 assisted) and an interception playing defensive back. He earned Honorable Mention All-SAC. He plans to study exercise science.
De’Jour Johnson will be playing football at Tiffin University, an NCAA Division II school in Tiffin, Ohio. As a running back, De’Jour rushed for 337 yards and a touchdown. He plans to study biology.
Nicole Smothermon is heading to Glen Oak Community College to play volleyball. Nicole, a setter, earned 1st Team All-SAC honors as a senior and as a junior. She tallied 110 kills, 93 assists, 201 digs, 18 blocks and 58 service aces this past season. She plans on studying criminal justice with hopes of becoming a coroner.
Kent Burkhead will join the baseball team at Bryant & Statton College, a junior college with athletics at its Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, campus. Through 19 games of his senior season, Kent is batting .319 with 15 hits and 11 RBI. He earned Honorable Mention All-SAC last season. Kent plans to study criminal justice.
