South Side High School has found its next coach to lead the Archers football program.
Andre Goodwell was introduced to the team on Tuesday, after his selection as coach was made official Monday night by the Fort Wayne Community Schools board.

"It's a chance to live out a dream to be a high school head football coach in the SAC." "Already having a group of kids and a group of coaches and a faculty who's going to be behind me and help me to obtain all our goals and push our kids in the right direction, it seemed like the proper fit for me."
This is Goodwell's first head coaching position. He spent the last four years as running backs coach at Bishop Luers High School, where he was also head track & field coach, an assistant coach for the boys basketball team and transportation director for the school.
Goodwell takes over a South Side program that won two games in the last two seasons; and he does so with hopes of molding his players into a successful team on the gridiron and successful young men after they're done playing at Jack Weicker Stadium.
"Sometimes, we have to make kids believe things in themselves they don't know they have in them," Goodwell adds. "We do have a valuable product here at South Side. We want the same things for them that anybody else would want for their kids. For them to know that is going to go a long way."
Goodwell--brother of Churubusco girls basketball coach David Goodwell and brother-in-law to South Side girls basketball head coach Juanita Goodwell--was a standout running back for Harding High School in the early 1990s. He started his coaching career at Fort Wayne Metro Youth Sports and coached at Towles Intermediate School before joining the Luers staff.
