Snider High School has hired Reggie Tharp as the new Panthers girls basketball head coach, Snider athletic director Steve Ziembo tells the Parkview Sports Network.
Tharp is being elevated to the top spot after one season as an assistant on Akilah Sims' coaching staff. Sims stepped down as Snider girls coach in June to accept an assistant coaching position at Western Michigan University.
Tharp played high school basketball in the mid-1990s, earning All-Summit Athletic Conference honors.
Last season, Snider won 20 games and its first sectional championship since 2014, and its first regional semi-final game in a decade. The Panthers finished 10th in the Class 4A poll.
Returning for the Panthers is guard Jordyn Poole, who averaged 12.3 points, 3.2 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game as a sophomore; and Johnea Donahue, a second team All-Summit Athletic Conference selection who averaged 8.0 points and 4.4 rebounds a game.
