Hospital Medicine

Parkview Physicians Group - Hospital Medicine

To provide patients with the best medical attention possible, Parkview Hospital employs a special type of physician known as a hospitalist to help oversee patient care. A primary care physician or specialist can ask our hospitalist doctors to take care of a patient while admitted to Parkview Hospital.

Hospitalists are physicians who work with the team of nurses, medical professionals and specialty physicians at Parkview Hospital to provide individualized care.

Parkview hospitalists are:

  • Board-certified internal medicine physicians.

  • Experts at caring for sick patients in hospitals.

  • Available to provide care for patients around the clock.

  • Benefits of a hospitalist program:

  • Hospital stays can be shorter

  • Complications can be fewer

  • Care can be better coordinated

  • Greater satisfaction with overall care

Coordinated care

Parkview hospitalists share information with the admitted patient's primary care physician. The patient’s physician will be fully informed of progress at key times during and after hospitalization.

Parkview hospitalists are dedicated physicians who provide patient care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Because no one person could do this, we work as a highly integrated team that includes physicians, specially trained nurses (clinical care coordinators), and other caregivers. One or more of the team may work with a patient, depending on the length of hospital stay.

Family members can contact our hospitalist through the nursing unit. We will ask that one family member be designated as the contact person to help make communication more accurate and effective.

Parkview hospitalists are also readily available to schedule a family conference to discuss important care issues at a time that is convenient for the patient and family.

Our hospitalist will contact the patient’s primary care physician or make arrangements for your follow-up care. It is up to the patient to follow through with your discharge instructions, including making necessary appointments with the primary care physician. Parkview hospitalists do not see patients outside of the hospital, but are always available to discuss a patient’s care with the primary physician during the hospital stay.
