Family Birthing Center Classes

Preparing for Childbirth Class

Preparation is key to having a confident, personally satisfying birthing experience. Our class is designed to help you and your partner explore the physical, emotional and social aspects of birth. You will learn coping strategies for labor, including focused breathing, movement and positioning, labor support, massage and relaxation. Also included is information on pain management options, cesarean births and postpartum stages.

Breastfeeding Your Baby

If you are considering breastfeeding your baby, this class is highly encouraged.  We give you practical information about the benefits of breastfeeding, and you will learn the importance of correct positioning and latching-on, pumping and storing of milk.  Partners are welcome to attend.  A certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) leads this one-session class.

Safe Slumber Class

This 90-minute class provides education for safe sleep practices and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) prevention.  Following completion of the class, qualified parents are given a portable crib and crib sheet.  To qualify for a crib, you must be enrolled in one or more of the following:

  • WIC
  • TANF
  • Food stamps
  • Medicaid

There may be assistance available if there is a dire need for a safe place for baby to sleep.  Pre-registration is required, and mothers must be pregnant or have an infant under the age of one.

To register for any of these classes or to receive more information, call (260) 355-3651.
