Weight Management

We hear the message from our personal physicians as well as the news media: nutrition and physical activity have a dramatic impact on our health. Yet knowing that we need to incorporate certain behaviors into our daily routines doesn’t mean that it’s easy. Many individuals struggle to make lasting changes when it comes to eating and exercise.

Parkview offers help for adults and kids who are ready to make healthy changes. Assistance is available through one-on-one nutrition counseling at any Parkview affiliated hospital or through these programs.

Shapedown
Shapedown is one of the premier weight-management programs in the nation for kids, ages 8 through 18, and their families. With a comprehensive approach based on lifestyle improvement, Shapedown focuses on physical activity, nutrition and family communication.

Each class session includes exercise and practical advice about changing behaviors. Workbooks are available in Spanish and English.

Locally, Parkview Hospital is an authorized provider of the Shapedown program. Parkview offers three sessions each year in a central Fort Wayne location. Each session includes 10 weekly classes (only six weeks in the summer).  After attending classes together, families return for monthly follow-up sessions.

A physician referral is required. Scholarships are available to help cover the cost of the program.
