Free colorectal cancer screening kits available
Fort Wayne, Ind. – Monday, Mar. 15, 2010 — Parkview Hospital’s Community Health Improvement Program and the Parkview Comprehensive Cancer Center are leading the effort to provide free EZ Detect™ colorectal cancer screening kits to individuals in northeast Indiana.
If diagnosed and treated in the early stages, colorectal cancer is highly curable. Beginning at age 50 (45 for African-American men and women), Parkview and the American Cancer Society recommend that people at average risk for developing colon cancer have a fecal occult blood test yearly and a colonoscopy every 10 years. People with higher risk factors may need to begin screening at an earlier age.
EZ Detect kits provide a simple way to do blood stool screenings at home. The EZ Detect kits are available at the following Parkview locations:
